5 Great Kitchen Upgrades for Your Kitchen Renovation!

A collage of four pictures of kitchens with different types of cabinets and shelves.

When thinking about renovating your kitchen, it’s not enough to think just about the new color, tile, or flooring you want. Yes, these are extremely important, and working with a team that understands what they’re doing is fundamental. But working with our KDC team means our designers will also suggest improvements that go beyond choosing the hardware for your new kitchen. Here are five great kitchen upgrades that you can add to your kitchen that will add value, functionality, beauty, and style to your new space!

POT FILLERS

Pot fillers are as popular as ever! It’s one of those items which people are not sure about at first, but once they have it, they wonder how they’ve lived so long without it! Besides adding functionality to your kitchen - reducing the number of trips back and forth between the sink and stove and avoiding spills - they also add style to any kitchen project! They make cooking easier and less messy, and it’s one of the features that our clients love the most once they start using their new kitchen!

WATERFALL COUNTERTOPS

Waterfall countertops have their sides extending vertically, reaching for the floor. They create a dramatic look, beautifully finishing off any kitchen. While it doesn’t have any part in adding functionality to your space, it does add a sense of smoothness. If you have the right space and if it is suitable for the project, this can be a great option for added elegance of movement.

WORKSTATION SINK

Every space counts and every detail matters, right? That’s why we love combining functionality with beauty when designing our client’s projects, creating a smartly planned kitchen. A workstation sink can have cutting boards integrated into it, a drawer that is actually another cutting board, and you can even have your whole sink “hole” covered by a combination of items that makes the whole process of cooking, much more convenient! When it comes to adding a practical workstation sink, we highly recommended it!

FUNCTIONAL STORAGE SPACES

We are believers that a great kitchen design will always encompass functional storage space! If your space and project allow, there’s no better way to “replace” a blank wall than with added and extra storage space for pots, plates, containers, glasses, and more. Another great solution is an integrated utensil holder, that can be placed right under your cabinet in the cooking area. Yet another option, if you don’t want too many cabinets in your kitchen, is custom-made shelves. They are great for storage and adding that personal touch!

BEVERAGE CENTERS

Still thinking about storage and being smart about the kitchen space, beverage centers are an excellent choice to keep a kitchen clutter-free. Beverage centers can keep, not only “bar items”, but also your coffee machine, sodas, coffee pods, teas, and chocolate mixes. They are a smart solution that integrates elegance and practicality!

We’re proud to share that our Owings Mills kitchen renovation has earned top honors for Best Mid-Century Modern Renovation in the Baltimore Magazine Home & Design Awards . The project will be featured in the magazine’s April 2026 issue. What began as a necessary plumbing repair beneath the slab quickly evolved into something much larger—a full reimagining of a 1959 kitchen that the homeowners already loved. Rather than starting over, the vision centered on preserving the spirit of the original space while elevating its performance, materiality, and experience.

We are honored to share that one of our recent projects has been featured on the cover of Kitchen & Bath Design News as part of their April feature, Next-Level Showers . This issue explores how the modern shower has evolved beyond utility into something far more experiential. A place for restoration, efficiency, and daily ritual. We are proud to see our work included in this broader conversation around how thoughtful design can elevate even the most routine moments. Led by designer Stephanie Twarowski, the featured primary bathroom reflects a shift we are seeing across many of our projects. Clients are placing greater emphasis on the shower as the focal point of the space, prioritizing both performance and atmosphere.
