LUTHERVILLE, Maryland
Four bathrooms. Four distinct expressions. One cohesive vision.
This four-bathroom renovation in Lutherville was designed for a returning client—a prominent chef whose kitchen we previously transformed—bringing the same level of thought, personality, and precision into some of the most personal spaces in the home. The scope included three full bathrooms and one powder room, each with its own character, yet all tied together by a shared design language rooted in warmth, materiality, and intention.
Rather than creating a single, repeated look, each bath was given its own point of view. One leans dark, rich, and moody, inspired by the client's younger days in Paris in the 80s and layered with bold finishes and playful decor. Others are bright and spa-like, defined by light wood tones, dynamic stone veining, and a sense of calm that feels restorative rather than stark. Together, they form a collection of spaces that feel expressive, tailored, and deeply livable.
Material selection played a central role throughout the project. Large-format slabs bring drama and continuity to walls and showers, while smaller-format tiles—like hex and mosaic patterns—add texture and contrast underfoot and in niches. Reeded surfaces and subtle relief details introduce depth, balancing the clean lines of the cabinetry and stone.
Lighting and storage were treated as design elements, not afterthoughts. Layered illumination—from ceiling fixtures to decorative sconces to mirrors lit from within—allows each space to shift effortlessly from functional to atmospheric. Smartly integrated storage solutions keep countertops clear and routines seamless, supporting daily use without sacrificing visual clarity.
The result is a thoughtfully curated suite of bathrooms—each with its own mood and material story, yet unified by a consistent sense of craft and restraint. Distinct, personal, and enduring, these spaces reflect how design can adapt to different moments while still feeling like part of a cohesive whole.
